All about Maytrescence.

A month to raise money.

Let’s raise as much money as we can during May via the Maytrescence JustGiving page. Whether you just want to donate, or raise money by doing an activity during May, we’d love to see and read your stories of matrescence.

All money raised will be invested in our goal of raising awareness of matrescence and supporting issues faced by new mothers, birthing parents and their familes.

6 charities have been selected for Maytrescence 2026, they represent a cross-section of different causes relating to matrescence and becoming a mother or parent. 90% of donations made during May will be split equally across these charities.

Your donation is also invested in longer term progress, with 10% of donations being used to fund the set-up of The Maytrescence Foundation. The foundation will support grassroots organisations, and fight for systemic and long term integration of matrescence into every corner of society.

A month to drive change.

Across the month of May, we will be sharing content focused on matrescence. This includes amplifying the voices of experts and the work of those who have fought for matrescence to become mainstream for years.

We will explore and share the small things that we can all do to embed matrescence into the everyday language of becoming a parent.

Integrating the word and concept of matrescence into mainstream conversation won’t happen on it’s own and it’s not someone else’s job.

We will challenge brands to join us in this village, working with them to find ways in which they can drive change to embed matrescence into their brand and organisation.

A month to have a voice.

‘Nothing about us without us’. It’s essential that we are fuelled by the real experiences voices of mothers and parents. We aren’t here to add to the overwhelm of information; we’re here for solutions and change which are driven by the Maytrescence village.

We’d love you to share your matrescence experiences with us across May. To find out how, visit My Matrescence Moment.

We’ll ask you to share your thoughts about the change that’s needed to better prepare people for motherhood and parenthood. This will help inform the agenda of The Maytrescence Foundation and Maytrescence 2027. Please have your say, it’s important that we have as many voices as possible.

If you’d like to be involved in Maytrescence 2027 or have ideas that you’d like to discuss with us, please do reach out via the Contact Us page.

The mothers behind Maytrescence.

We love Movember. It’s achieved so much for men’s health around the world. It’s an inspiration really. But surely a movement focused on women is long overdue.

Maytrescence was born. From sheer frustration that the world seems to be setting up mothers to fail before they even have time to find their feet. That social constructs and conversations around motherhood bring judgement, criticism, overwhelm and pressure, when we least expect it. That so many of us go into parenthood so unprepared because our reality is often very far from the expectations we have been told to set.

Why is matrescence such an unknown concept? Why isn’t it part of our learning journey when we’re preparing to have a baby? Feeding choices, baby lists, appointments, baby names, so much preparation…but we’re not preparing ourselves.

Maytrescence is our commitment to use our pain, our experience of being blindsided by motherhood, and our professional experience as senior marketers to turn the month of May each year into a singular fight for the integration of matrescence into every corner of society. We don’t want our children, or anyone, to go into motherhood unprepared.
